Butiama/Vienna, November 2025 – JAMII IMPACT Financial Services Limited and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) have signed a landmark guarantee agreement aimed at improving access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) investing in renewable energy solutions across Tanzania.

The agreement is part of the Southern African Renewable Energy Investment and Growth (SOARING) Programme, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) which aims to mobilise private financing for renewable energy in Tanzania and Zambia.

The programme provides an innovative credit enhancement facility which encourages local financial institutions to lend to clean energy projects, targeted capacity building on clean energy and climate finance and project preparation support for a pipeline of high-potential SMEs looking to access funding.

REEEP is providing first-loss guarantee coverage up to 50% of the default risk for loans issued by JAMII IMPACT to clean energy SMEs in Tanzania. This risk cushion enables more favourable loan terms for borrowers and unlocks financing for clean energy innovations that were previously out of reach.

‘’By sharing the risk with local lenders, we’re not only helping early-stage SMEs to access capital but also building confidence in the viability of green technologies to power sustainable economic growth,” says Eva Kelly, CEO of REEEP.

“This partnership allows us to tailor our loan products to the rapidly growing clean energy sector, while reaching underserved communities,” says Mesika Mongitta, Managing Director of JAMII IMPACT. “We expect a strong boost for local entrepreneurship and job creation, especially in rural areas.”

The collaboration is already showing results. The first loan issued by JAMII IMPACT and backed by a 50% guarantee from REEEP under the SOARING Programme was approved for Africa Greenfoot, an early-stage e-mobility company in Tanzania.

This loan will serve as co-financing for Greenfoot’s “Electric Cargo Bike Platform for Sustainable Urban Logistics” project in Arusha, Tanzania, which is funded by EEP Africa. The project aims to deploy 30 locally developed electric cargo tricycles, supported by a network of solar-powered battery charging and swapping stations and a digital platform for fleet management and service delivery.
