For hundreds of millions of people who still lack reliable energy access, clean affordable power is life-changing in ways that go far beyond lighting a home. It unlocks productivity, underpins food security and fuels the SMEs that are the backbone of emerging economies.

2025 was a year of both progress and profound disruption. The sudden withdrawal of USAID funding sent shockwaves through the development sector, triggering further withdrawals and delays as traditional donors turn inward. And yet the sector has shown remarkable resilience.

Our Annual Report – Powering Livelihoods, Transforming Lives – reflects on 2025, a year of both progress and profound disruption. And yet the sector has shown remarkable resilience, with attention to the intersection of renewable energy and agriculture never greater. It was a year in which REEEP reached a major milestone in the Zambian energy market and built substantial new partnerships, both of which are thriving as we reach the midpoint of 2026.

Take a look inside, and you will find:

  • A decade-long look at how REEEP helped transform Zambia’s off-grid energy market
  • Deep insights into how REEEP works, the programmes we design and implement and how we shift markets
  • Our work on the Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) and the launch of the Agri-Energy Coalition, formed to break down the silos between energy and agriculture
  • The PURE Impact Index, a new way to compare impact across diverse productive-use technologies
  • Our new sister organisation DREAM, built to catalyse private investment
