About the event:
PFAN is hosting a standalone event on the sidelines of COP27 titled ‘Closing the Financing Gap for Climate Adaptation SMEs’ on ‘Finance Day’, 9 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. This exclusive evening event will create a space for open dialogue for relevant stakeholders in climate adaptation finance, including entrepreneurs, investors, development finance institutions and the donor community. Participants will hear elevator pitches from innovative climate adaptation businesses from Southern Africa and learn about their challenges and needs. The following projects will be presented:
- Emfed Farms & Trading, Ghana
- Livestock Trade Services, Kenya
- SimuSolar, Tanzania
Engaging roundtable discussions will follow, allowing participants to discuss and explore the key challenges and opportunities in scaling up adaptation finance and closing the gaps between the flow of funds and SMEs. The evening event will be an excellent way to connect, brainstorm, collaborate and learn in real-time over dinner.

In LIC and LMIC, climate adaptation investment falls short of need and rarely materialises in effective adaptation on the ground. Localised energy and food nexus approaches increase the effectiveness of investments and improve food security, closing the gap between NDCs, pledges and impact.

About the event:
Mitigation of and adaptation to climate impacts in the food and agricultural sector is a complex challenge that requires specific interventions and innovations that vary across crop types used, geographies and cultural contexts. This showcase will highlight emerging technical, ecological, financial and social innovations that have real transformative potential, enabling discussion on cross-sector collaboration and breaking down silos on the route to scale.
