The 2nd Annual Africa Solar Energy will be taking place on 7th and 8th September 2021. The aim of the event is to stimulate and strengthen direct and indirect cooperation within the international technical and commercial communities, which is a precondition for supporting the development of a sustainable solar industry in Africa.
REEEP’s Director General Magdalena Kouneva will participate in the 2nd Annual Africa Solar Energy Forum, where she will give a presentation on “The Potential of Green Banks to Scale Up Investments in Clean Energy and Energy Access in Africa”. The session will take place on 7th September 2021 at 17:15 East Africa Time (16:15 CET).
Although significant opportunities exist in Africa in clean energy and energy access due to improved technology and business methods, the current financing situation is unsustainable and will not lead to the achievement of the SDGs. In her presentation, Magdalena Kouneva will explore the potential of the Green Bank model to scale up climate finance in Africa and to catalyse the flow of sustainable financing for clean energy and energy access, as well as improve the risk-return profile of projects that are commercially viable but not yet “bankable”.
