REEEP at COP28

We have to take collective action to mitigate the escalating climate crisis.

The Time for Climate Action is Now

From 30 November to 12 December the world is gathering in Dubai to collaboratively reassess and enhance commitments made under international agreements like the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030 and beyond. It must continue to serve as crucial platform for fostering collective action, sharing advancements in sustainable technologies and negotiating policies to mitigate the escalating climate crisis. The decisions and agreements forged at COP28 will significantly influence the trajectory of global efforts to limit temperature rise, adapt to environmental changes and promote climate resilience. As climate-related challenges intensify, this conference must be pivotal in shaping a coordinated, equitable and effective response to safeguard the planet for current and future generations. COP28 underscores the urgency of international cooperation in addressing the existential threat of climate change and represents a vital step towards a more sustainable and resilient future.

The REEEP team will be in Dubai to drive forward climate action on what we do best: developing clean energy markets for the benefit of underserved populations in the Global South. COP28 is following on the heels of the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum at the beginning of November 2023, where launched our newest programme, PURE Growth, to develop markets for clean energy specifically for productive use in agri-food value chains, supported by the Austrian Government. Looking to the future, we have identified three further areas of energy transformation important for markets of the Global South, which include innovative financing approaches for e-mobility, clean energy for effective climate adaptation and demand stimulation for mini-grids.

Bankable solutions for these sectors have been developed in recent years, and investment has been consistently growing over the last ten years. However, to build on this momentum effectively, market change requires a collaborative effort and contribution from a range of stakeholders. It also requires a holistic approach and a long-term perspective that is inherently about improving the market rather than implementation of singular projects. This is where REEEP excels, with our proven track record in balancing market stakeholder interests into effective programmes achieving both short- and long-term impact on the market, including adoption of clean energy solutions at different scales.

At COP28 we want to cut through the endless talk and make meaningful change. We will be participating in several events, including hosting an official UNFCCC side event on Developing markets to scale up renewable energy for climate-resilient agriculture on 9 December in the Blue Zone. Our team will be on site from 1 December to 9 December and is open to conversations on the topics that matter most for our collective future, with a focus on powering sustainable agriculture through productive use of renewable energy, e-mobility, off-grid energy access and resilient food systems. Please get in touch with our team below to discuss collaborations or if you are interested in supporting REEEP. Let’s take climate action now.
