Powering the Future: Clean Energy Innovation in Developing Markets

REEEP announces Powering the Future: Clean Energy Innovation in Developing Markets, a collaboration with ITN Productions Industry News

REEEP and ITN Productions Industry News are co-producing Powering the Future: Clean Energy Innovation in Developing Markets, a news-style programme raising awareness and understanding of the importance of investing in clean energy sources in low and middle-income countries.

The world’s population is over 7.8 billion and growing with the highest growth in low and middle-income countries.  With an ever-increasing population comes an increase in demand for energy.  It is vital that the focus moves away from fossil fuels in developing countries towards green technologies to power a sustainable future.

Anchored by an ITN Productions Industry News presenter, Powering the Future explores the latest innovation and technology in developing sustainable energy, highlights the human and environmental benefits of accessing cleaner, greener energy now and raises awareness of REEEP’s mission to support market readiness in developing and emerging markets.  The programme will showcase success stories of those leading the charge and shines a spotlight on key industry opportunities and challenges including accessibility to green energy in low and middle-income countries, investment opportunities and the global shift to sustainable finance, mobilizing and accelerating private capital in developing markets and how green banks are supporting local markets to move towards sustainable finance.

Powering the Future will launch at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow on 1-12 November 2021. The programme will combine key sector interviews, news items and sponsored editorial profiles and will be supported by a communications campaign targeting REEEP members and beyond.

Magdalena KounevaDirector General, REEEP said: ‘’Significant climate finance and resource mobilization well beyond current levels of public and private climate investment is required to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. We are excited for REEEP’s partnership with ITN Productions to showcase the importance of bridging these financing gaps by scaling-up developing countries’ capacities to both raise and invest financing in clean energy businesses and projects to support their energy transitions, energy access and green resilience policies. While at the forefront of climate change, large investment opportunities in these markets are still not at the level required for significant transformation. REEEP supports developing and emerging markets in adapting to the impacts of climate change and supporting their energy transitions.’’

Nina Harrison-Bell, Head of ITN Productions Industry News said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with REEEP to highlight the vital role of green technologies in powering a sustainable future. We hope Powering the Future helps amplify the climate ambition for the benefit of vulnerable communities in bringing green energy access to developing countries.”
