After 15 years of service, Maher Chebbo has resigned from the REEEP Governing Board. Maher has been a member of the Governing Board since 2008 and held the position of Chair since June 2018.
During this time, REEEP has grown and reached significant milestones. REEEP-implemented programmes the Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN) has counted 2 billion in investment leveraged, and the Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia (BGFZ) won the 2019 Ashden Award for Financial or Business Model Innovation and the 2019 UN Climate Action Award, and to date has nearly reached its goal of 1 million Zambians connected to off-grid energy. In 2018-19, BGFZ was taken on to become the Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa, now at work in six sub-Saharan African countries.
As Vice Chair, Dr Valérie Marcel will act on behalf of the Board following Maher’s resignation. A new Chair will be elected for the period 2022-2026.
REEEP thanks Maher Chebbo for his years of dedication and wishes him the best in his future endeavours.
