Based on several sources, on 14 July 2011, pv magazine reported that the government of Brazil intends to pass legislation permitting grid connections for solar installations by the end of 2011.
One of the major organisations behind the formulation of the policies is RENOVE, or Rede Nacional de Organizações da Sociedade Civil para as Energias Renováveis, which has used REEEP project funding in the 6th programme cycle to make recommendations for a legal and regulatory framework to implement a long-term solar photovoltaic roofs programme, as inputs to the Brazilian Mines and Energy Ministry and Electricity Regulation Agency. The project analysed the current legislation and made recommendations on how to address key issues such as access rights to the grid, the most effective types of incentives, thus paving the way for a large-scale PV market with competitive costs.
