This report summarizes the discussions and conclusions from the 2014 Climate Knowledge Brokers workshop, held from 4-5 October 2014. The workshop was jointly organized by Climate Knowledge Brokers Group Coordination Hub, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), and was hosted by the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) in Brighton, UK.

The ubiquitous reporting services of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) attended and reported some initial impressions of the event.

Imagine a world where everyone making decisions on how best to respond to climate change had easy access to the information they need to make those choices. What would it look like and what would be needed to bring it about?

This may sound a naive question. Getting relevant climate information is not like clicking your smart phone app and looking up a train time. There is rarely a right or wrong answer in the same way. And access to information is not everything. Just by having it at your fingertips doesn’t mean it will be understood, that it will be acted upon, or that change will happen as a result.

COP 20 Side Event: Innovation and Collaboration for Transforming Knowledge into Climate Action

Relevant, timely and credible knowledge is critical to addressing climate change. The Climate Knowledge Brokers Group will report on new collaborative ways for managing data and information, sourced from different silos to create knowledge, insight and understanding. Includes hands-on case studies.

2014 Climate Knowledge Brokers Workshop

The Climate Knowledge Brokers (CKB) Group was set up in 2011 with the aim to explore closer collaboration between online knowledge brokers working in the climate and development sectors.Since its formation it has demonstrated a keen appetite for closer collaboration and knowledge exchange, and has generated a range of ideas on how to make this happen in practice. The CKB group meets annually in order to take this agenda forward, with workshops held in Eschborn and Bonn in Germany as well as in Washington DC, USA.

The 2014 Workshop will be held at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) on the Campus of the University of Sussex on October 4 and 5.
